Ten on Tuesday: We’re a bunch of punks lol Tuesday, Feb 7 2012

These random questions are from Chelsea! She called us a bunch of punks because we don’t send her questions lol. I think we need to get on that ^_^

1. How do you feel about Groundhog’s Day?
I don’t really feel anything about it. Not sure why people make a bid over it, either.

2. What color are your fingernails right now? (Bonus points if you include a picture.)
My thumbs have a little bit of ‘Spark-tacular’ by OPI on them. The rest came off, hence why no photo.  I fail :(

3. Do you like riddles?
Sure….if they aren’t impossibly hard to solve

4. When you were 10, how old did you think “old” was? At your current age, how old do you think “old” is?
Hmmmm….I think I though (lol) “old” was in your thirties. At my current age (28),  I’m not sure what how old “old” is….Age is just a number and you’re only as old as you feel!

5. Do you wish on stars?
Yes, I do. I miss star gazing

6. Do you recycle?
We try to recycle cans. That’s about it. Oh, and we reuse plastic bags we get at the grocery store.

7. On a scale from 1-10, how good of a cook are you?
I think I’m a 7 or 8. I don’t think I’m a bad cook. I want to be a better cook, though.

8. Do you color your hair? Professionally or at home?
I use to color my hair on my own. There is even red hair dye on my parents bathroom door because I missed my head and got the door lol. When I do get my hair done (it’s in desperate need of a cut and some sort of color), it’s done by a professional :)

9. One a scale from 1-10, how do you rate your manners?
Ummm….I’m really not sure haha. I don’t think they are bad, but I do think they need work. I would say 7 or 8

10. Who are the last 5 people you have texted?
1. Charra
2. Melissa
3. My mom
4.Tina
5. PJ

The last day….not really Wednesday, Nov 30 2011

So, it’s the last day of November, which means the last day of blogging every day. It sort of makes me sad but then I feel relief. I love blogging but some days it was a stretch to come up with stuff to right about (I know others struggled with this also).

This year, it didn’t really feel like I was up against a deadline or had to blog about anything in particular. Last year, it felt like I was under some kind of invisible pressure or something (yes, weird, I know). This year, I enjoyed blogging A LOT more. It was fun to blog every day. It makes me want to continue blogging, maybe not every day but more often than I was.

Here’s to blogging more!

Performance week Tuesday, Nov 29 2011

Every Fall session at the belly dance studio, the Advanced class has a showcase night at the end. Well, this week also happens to be Christmas performance week for troupe. We said that it would be fine to have solo night before the performances so we could get it out the way.

I love dancing, I really really do. We start in January and don’t stop until our Christmas performances are over. I’m really looking forward to the break. Maybe it will help with work but then I worry about what it’s going to be like when classes and performances start up again. Oh well, I’ll figure it out when it gets here.

It’s Binary Day!! Tuesday, Nov 1 2011

Yeah, that’s all I know about that. Couldn’t tell you what it is to save me life lol.

Today marks the first day of November 2011. It marks the first day of blogging every day in November. I am also participating in NaNoWriMo. Find me. My username is yesthatgirl. Would love more writing buddies.

Today, on WeBlogWeVlog, we vlogged about what life is like in 2011. Here is my vlog on what life is like, according to me:

1. What is the worst compliment you have ever received?
It was during a relay that our belly dance troupe was performing at this year. We were taking a picture and I had on a unitard that sucks in everything (feels like you are wearing a sausage casing lol) and some guy made the comment to suck it in.

2. Did you/would you tell everyone the name of your baby before they were born, keep it a secret, or not choose until after they were born?

I’m undecided about this. I had my dogs named picked out before we meet him but it fit him so well. I’d like to meet they baby before choosing a name, though I’ll probably have a few picked out.

My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Nelson. She really taught me to love school and reading more than I already did at that age.

6. What is the best game/activity you have ever played at a baby shower?
The game where everyone wears a close pin and if they say the word “baby”, and someone hears them, they have their close pin taken away. Whoever has the most close pins at the end of the shower, wins.

The Pig Out: Jolie’s Bistro Pig Head Five Way Dinner. Monday, Sep 26 2011

This past Saturday we had an experience we will never forget.

It started with a simple tweet from @JoliesBistro: “Want to win a free Pig’s Head dinner? Mention us in a tweet today saying why you love Jolie’s and win a dinner for two!”

Well, PJ took to Twitter because we both really love Jolie’s and what they stand for. They use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. And we all know how much I love supporting the local community.

We won this amazing dinner for two at Jolies. I was beside myself. I could not believe our luck. We chose last Saturday as our date night and to celebrate our first six months together. We spent the entire day together but I’ll write about the rest of the day in a separate post.

Our dinner was a five course meal prepared by Executive Chef Manny Aguello  and his crew with wine pairings by the lovely Chelsie , General Manager and wine specialist at Jolie’s Bistro. They used every piece of the pigs head that they could in ways that we couldn’t believe. (Sorry for the picture quality. These were taken with my iPhone.)

Course one: A take on a classic New Orleans breakfast that you rarely see these days. In a small black iron skillet was a serving of warm grits with a slice of hogs head cheese with a perfectly poached egg on top. The simplicity of this meal was beautiful, and the flavor was outstanding.

Course two: We have a fresh three green salad tossed in a charred onion vinaigrette with deep fried pig ears. It was clean and crispy and paired with a delicious citrus wine that brought out the flavors in every bite.

Course Three: An amazing dish of pickled pigs tongue with salsa verde on a fried pistolet served with pickled mushroom.

We were a bit hesitant to hear the word pigs tongue. But the texture was much like that of a perfectly slow cooked pork roast. The salsa added that fresh herb taste to accompany that warmth of the meat and bread. In keeping with using local produce, the mushrooms are grown locally in Breaux Bridge. Perfection on a plate in my opinion.

Course four: A porchetta of pork cheek with almond & garlic puree and pickled persimmons. The skin was left on the side of the cheek and allowed to crisp like a cracklin. The meat it self was rolled with whole cloves of garlic, rosemary, and what I think was thyme. These particular persimmons, when pickled, have the consistency of an apple but this amazing fruity flavor. Pair all three of these items in each bite and you’re in heaven.

Course five: The Wild Card

After preparing the head and making the hog head cheese Chef Manny collected the drippings and meat that fell off, creating  a Ribollita with celery. It was served with two simple slices of peasant bread and a fried egg on top. Almost making a full circle.

We would like to thank Chef Manny and the entire staff of Jolies Louisiana Bistro. You can visit their website and make reservations here. If you go make sure to visit the master @LukeTullos and the bar staff for a delicious cocktail. They have happy hour all night on Wednesdays. Enjoy two-for-one selected drinks and half-off appetizers all night in the bar and bistro area. In the mood for a Sunday brunch with your significant other? Is it a special occasion? Or maybe you just want a drink and a meal after work, Jolie’s can handle it.

Supporting local business is important to us. It should be to you too. If you do not live here, you should find places in your town that use local ingredients. If you ever are in town, you should stop by Jolie’s. You will be glad you did.
